For starters, watch Ali’s vlog below as he walks us through his New Year workout routine - kitted out in RI Active, of course! Then read the Q&A below for his helpful tips and tricks on how to get started.

I want to get fit and healthy but don’t know where to start! What should I do?

The journey you will experience through a fitness lifestyle will bring you a whole mix of emotions. I promise you for every struggle and inch of pain you work through, the satisfaction of that achievement will out way the bad. I always recommend beginning your fitness journey with enjoyment first. If you practice something you don't enjoy you will not stick at it. Try different training methods, exercise classes and sports so you can find what stimulates you in the right way. Ultimately the key factor to an attainable healthy balanced lifestyle is consistency. Find the programme that works for you and stick to it.

What would be your advice for staying motivated to keep fit?
Motivation comes in many forms. To start out I looked for motivation online and from the people around me. I was inspired by the journeys of others and motivated by the stories of those who had made incredible progress. Setting short term goals will ensure you keep that flame alive.

Is it better to eat before or after a workout and which foods should you choose?
Nutrition is very subjective and depends on the goals you have. Different foods will react differently with every individual so this plays a part in food types and timings. I personally eat pre and post workout.

How does looking and feeling good in activewear affect your workout?
Confidence is a huge positive when it comes to sport. If you look good you will feel good and this in turn will bring positive energy which will give you that edge to perform better at whatever you do. Another aspect of activewear is comfort. You must have attire that is flexible, durable and comfortable to train in. Discomfort is something you can do without during exercise.

What’s been the biggest achievement in your fitness journey?
I would say my proudest moment was the day I gained a full sponsorship from a reputable sports supplement brand here in the UK. It was very humbling to have an organisation recognise your hard work and effort and believe in you.

Which three songs are at the top of your workout playlist?
Shoffy - Up Here
Trinix - Raining Day
Cold water - Major Lazer (Lost Frequencies Remix)
