5 Wimbledon 2019 moments we love

Wimbledon 2019 is well under way and we’re officially hooked. This year certainly hasn’t disappointed! Whether you’ve been lucky enough to bag tickets in the Wimbledon ballot or have been watching from the comfort of your own home (with a Pimms in hand, of course) these are the five moments we’ve loved so far…

 1. Cori Coco Gauff breaking new records

Having already won the title at last year’s French Open, the former world No.1 junior made history on day one of Wimbledon, beating Venus Williams. Yes, Cori AKA Coco Gauff is now the youngest player to reach the last 16 since Anna Kournikova at the 1996 US Open. And she’s just fifteen. It’s no wonder Michelle Obama and the Williams sisters are both huge fans.

2. The new duo on the block

It’s the partnership we were most excited for this year and has been the gift that keeps on giving with then newly coined #SerAndy . It’s no surprise then that Serena Williams and Andy Murray’s match broke tennis court protocol with theirs being held on Centre Court instead of the usual outer courts where mixed doubles are played. Beating  Andreas Mies and Alexa Guarachi at the weekend an easy 6-4, 6-, Serena had won her third round singles match just hours before. Impressed? Yeah we are.

3. The Duchess of Cambridge doing her thing

Spotting the Royals at the tennis is always one of the perks of watching, right? This year, the Duchess of Cambridge swapped the Royal Box for Court 14 to watch Harriet Dart vs Christina McHale with her friends, Kate Boulter and Anne Keothavong and we’re here for it. Plus that dress is everything. We need it in our lives.

4. The rules moved with the times

We’re all about championing equality and this year, Wimbledon has dropped the marital titles of Miss and Mrs for female players when announcing score. The singles champions only started getting the same prize money back in 2007 and the tournament got rid of the titles from the scoreboards back in 2009. It’s definitely a step in the right direction!

5. The Duchess of Sussex in jeans and a nice top

We love the Duchess of Sussex for many reasons, but when she turned up to Wimbledon in jeans and a nice top, we knew she was a girl after our own heart! With a pinstripe blazer, trilby hat, black cami vest and skinny jeans, she also wore a little ‘A’ necklace in honour of Archie – we can’t handle the cuteness!
